2020 Pritzker Architecture Prize Awarded to Two Female Architects
2024-09-06 17:20At 11 PM Beijing time on March 3, the highest honor in the international architecture community, the Pritzker Prize, announced its 2020 laureates—the 42nd edition of the award. The winners are Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara, partners at the Irish architectural firm Grafton Architects.
Farrell
and McNamara became the 47th and 48th recipients of the Pritzker Prize,
marking the first time Irish architects have won the award. Notably,
they are also the fourth and fifth women to receive the Pritzker Prize
since its inception in 1979.
Both
women are not only architects but also architectural educators. For
over 40 years, they have worked quietly yet steadfastly in the field of
architecture.
They
stand out for their strong yet nuanced approach to practice and design
philosophy. Their modern, site-specific designs are closely connected to
history, reflecting the architects' high sensitivity and craftsmanship.
